July Wrap Up

I'm linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy to share this month's wrap up. 

I was surprised to see that I read seven books total this month. It felt like I wasn't really making any reading progress, but I finished the month with some really short books. That upped my numbers a bit. Here are the books I read and what I thought about them.

The Widows of Malabar Hill

This was an enjoyable start to a new historical mystery series. I loved the exotic setting and learning about Indian culture. The heroine was smart and spirited. Recommended if you enjoy historical mysteries.

The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond

This was a great summer read! Lots of suspense and mystery. I love thrillers, and it's hard to find them in historical settings. I definitely recommend this if you're in the mood for something creepy. I was given this book by the publisher for review.

The Perfect Couple

I had very low expectations for this book , and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. It was a perfect summer read. Juicy and fun. Recommended if your looking for something to read by the pool. 

I'll Be Your Blue Sky

My feelings about this book are mixed. I enjoyed the historical timeline , but felt it was underdeveloped. The characters in the contemporary timeline got on my nerves. Still, it was a fun book to read on vacation. Trigger warning: the historical timeline deals with spousal abuse.

Convenience Store Woman

This was an odd little book. It was a quick read, and I enjoyed learning more about the culture of Japan. I'm not sure I would recommend it though. It was very strange.

Blue Horses

I had to read a poetry book for my reading challenge this year, so I picked this one. It was fine, but I think I would have enjoyed Emily Dickinson more.

And Then There Were None

My daughter recommended this one to me, and I devoured it in an afternoon. It's twisty and mind bending. It's my first Agatha Christie, and I really enjoyed it. We followed up our reading by watching the BBC adaptation and complaining about all of the changes.
