As I'm writing this, we are prepping for hurricane Dorian. He's heading right for Central Florida. At least I'll get some reading done. Here are the books I read in August and some of my thoughts. I read a lot of contemporary novels this month. I'll have to remedy that in September.
The Killing Tide
This was a fast paced, quick read. I really enjoyed the supporting cast, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I found the ending to be a little over the top, but, overall, it was a fun read. If you enjoy romantic suspense give this one a try.

Five Days in Skye
I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, so I was a little hesitant to start this one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The setting is amazing and I fell in love with the characters. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in the series.
King's Shadow
Angela Hunt is an all time favorite author of mine. I love her writing style. This series has been fascinating. I knew a little about the time period between the Old and New Testaments from history class, but she has really made these characters come alive. This final installment about Herod's family has been one of my favorites. Salome is an interesting and complicated character, and I loved her handmaid, Zara. If you enjoy ancient history, you will love
The Silent Years Series. Highly recommended.

Never Have I Ever
This one had an interesting premise, but left me feeling really icky. I liked the story well enough, but I feel like the author threw things in just to make the reader uncomfortable. It was a good thriller, but I can't really recommend it if you prefer clean reads.
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
Interesting nonfiction by a therapist that ended up having to go to therapy. Like most nonfiction, my interest came and went, but I mostly enjoyed it.
Searching for Sylvie Lee
Okay, another thriller that left me feeling yucky. This one really had me turning the pages, but the ending was a little too convenient. I also found myself skimming to find out what happened instead of really immersing myself in the story. And I did not like the ending. It was ok. If your looking for a more literary thriller you should give it a try. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.
A Seahorse in the Thames
This is an older Susan Meissner book that I hadn't read, and I loved it. It was a really great family drama with some mystery thrown in. I thought it was going to be a run of the mill romance, but the love story was just a small part of it. So good! Highly recommended.
Pride and Prejudice
This is my second reading of P&P. I enjoyed this annotated edition. It had a lot of interesting notes. If you are looking for a classic to read, this is a good one. The language isn't that hard to get into, and the story is engaging. I totally give you permission to watch the movie first. It will help you get into the story and understand the characters better.
London Tides
This contemporary romance fell a little flat for me. I really struggled to like the main characters which is necessary for me to enjoy a romance. There just seemed to be a lot of physical and not a lot of emotional connection. This isn't my favorite genre, so if you enjoy romance, you may want to give it a try.
