September Cover Love
September is coming! I'm so excited for a change in temps even though I know there won't be a break on the heat for a while. September also has some beautiful books coming out. Here are some of my favorites.

Top Ten Tuesday ~ World History Edition

I love history! It was my favorite subject in school. I especially love world history. You learn so much U.S. history here in the states, learning about what was going on in the rest of the world is always new and exciting. My love of history has definitely carried over into my reading life. I love rich historical fiction. Here are some of my favorites that are set in historical time periods outside of the United States.

My goals for Bout of Books 23 were to read three books and read a chapter in Middlemarch every day. I read two books and five chapters in Middlemarch. I'm pretty happy with my results. I'm at a place in my reading life where I read about a book a week. I'm just not consuming books like I used to. I'm moving into a season where I'm going to be doing more publisher reviews, and I'm really excited about that. I have a bunch of books that I'm really looking forward to queued up on my Kindle. I can't wait to share them with you all.

Bout of Books Day Five Wrap Up
Here's what I read on Friday.
Flora: 33 pages
Funny in Farsi: 19 pages
I'm on track to finish both of these books by the end of the week. I usually like to read three books during Bout of Books, but that clearly isn't going to happen unless I throw in a novella. Actually, I may do that. I have been reading a chapter a day in Middlemarch, but I was too tired last night. I may try to get in two chapters today.

From the Backlist
Like every reader out there, I love new releases. However, there are so many great books on my Kindle and my unread shelf that are being neglected in favor of the books that are shiny and new. I thought it would be fun to feature some of the books that have been on my TBR for a while, and give them a little love.
I read Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant a few years ago, and it has really stuck with me. I read Clock Dance this summer and loved it. I'm anxious to read more Anne Tyler, and I have this one on my shelf. Have you read any of Anne Tyler's books? Let me know in the comments.

It's Monday! What are you reading?

I'm participating in Bout of Books this week, so I'm sharing the books I'm hoping to read. I usually read two fiction books and one non-fiction book. I always pick shorter books, so that I can read them over the course of the week. I firmly believe in setting myself up for success. I'm also going to add in an audio book and a classic, but I don't plan to finish those. Here's what I have on the docket for the week.

From the Backlist ~ Five Miles South of Peculiar

July Wrap Up
I'm linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy to share this month's wrap up.
I was surprised to see that I read seven books total this month. It felt like I wasn't really making any reading progress, but I finished the month with some really short books. That upped my numbers a bit. Here are the books I read and what I thought about them.
This was an enjoyable start to a new historical mystery series. I loved the exotic setting and learning about Indian culture. The heroine was smart and spirited. Recommended if you enjoy historical mysteries.
This was a great summer read! Lots of suspense and mystery. I love thrillers, and it's hard to find them in historical settings. I definitely recommend this if you're in the mood for something creepy.

I had very low expectations for this book , and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. It was a perfect summer read. Juicy and fun. Recommended if your looking for something to read by the pool.
My feelings about this book are mixed. I enjoyed the historical timeline , but felt it was underdeveloped. The characters in the contemporary timeline got on my nerves. Still, it was a fun book to read on vacation. Trigger warning: the historical timeline deals with spousal abuse.
This was an odd little book. It was a quick read, and I enjoyed learning more about the culture of Japan. I'm not sure I would recommend it though. It was very strange.
I had to read a poetry book for my reading challenge this year, so I picked this one. It was fine, but I think I would have enjoyed Emily Dickinson more.
My daughter recommended this one to me, and I devoured it in an afternoon. It's twisty and mind bending. It's my first Agatha Christie, and I really enjoyed it. We followed up our reading by watching the BBC adaptation and complaining about all of the changes.
