October has been crazy! We sold our house and moved into a rental, and now we are starting the process of buying a house. Argh! Wake me up when it's over! At least I have some great books to read on the horizon, and I read some good books in October as well. Here's my wrap up for the month.
Hope's Highest Mountain
Misty M. Beller is a new author to me. I enjoyed her writing style. Her faith elements were strong, and she wove prayer into her story frequently and effortlessly. While I had to suspend my disbelief at some of the survival aspects of the book, I enjoyed the nonstop action and adventure. The main characters were brave and determined, and they had great chemistry. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy frontier romance with a lot of "man verses nature" elements.

When Silence Sings
Sarah Loudin Thomas is an author I turn to time and time again for unique characters and stories. I love how she weaves faith and the supernatural into the lives of ordinary people and places. When Silence Sings has parallels of the story of Jonah told through the eyes of two feuding families that live in West Virginia. Murder, boot legging and superstitions abound between the Harpe and the McLean clans. I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy historical fiction.

When I Close My Eyes
I loved the premise of this book, an assassination attempt gone wrong, but the execution didn't click for me. The writing felt choppy, and I struggled with all the different points of view. The constant switching from one character to another kept me from connecting with any of them very deeply. I appreciated the message the author was trying to convey, but it felt heavy handed at times. I wish I had enjoyed it more. It's getting great reviews on Goodreads, so it's probably just my personal taste. There's nothing content wise that would keep me from recommending it. It just wasn't for me.

Deadly Deceit
Natalie Walters is my go to author for romantic suspense. I am loving her Harbored Secrets series. Deadly Deceit is the second installment. I love the small town southern vibes, and the fascinating characters. Her hero in this book is the perfect blend of swoony and nerdy. Plus, there are lots of Marvel references. The mystery was great as well. Highly recommended!
