Top Ten Tuesday ~ Wishes for the Book Genie

1. An autographed copy of my favorite books from each of my favorite authors.

2. That I would enjoy contemporary romance. I just don't.

3. I would love to have lunch with Lynn Austin and Susan Meissner.

4. New bookshelves. I gave the shelves I was using to my son when he moved out.

5. That Lynn Austin's next book would be a sequel to 

6. That all ebooks would be priced at $5.99 or less.

7. I would love my own reading room with a comfy chair.

8. That the awesome library I use was ten minutes closer.

9. That the awesome library I use would ask me what books I think they should buy this year. I think I could really help them out.

10. That I would read more five star books. They are few and far between.

Quick Lit ~ October

Here are the books I've been reading the past few weeks:

A Million Little Ways

This book came along just as I was starting a new project. I enjoy Emily's writing style and she makes the ordinary feel important. I would recommend giving this one a read and I would also recommend her first book, Grace for the Good Girl.

For the Love

This one is everywhere right now, and I can understand why. It's very funny and engaging. I enjoyed the first part a lot. However, I felt like it's target audience was ten  years younger than me. I couldn't really take her parenting advice seriously when none of her children are grown yet. Still, there are some interesting observations in here, and her "thank you note" chapters are hilarious.

The Curiosity Keeper 

I was pleasantly surprised  by this one. It had an interesting mystery and a sweet romance. I would recommend it if you enjoy regency era romance.

Secrets She Kept

One of the best books I've read this year. I did a review of it here.

On This Foundation

I should finish this one today. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Some times I can't stop turning the pages, and sometimes I want to tell these people to shut up and get the wall built already. It's definitely not my favorite Lynn Austin book. 

Diary of a Jackwagon

I just started this one, and It already has me in stitches. Tim Hawkins is funny. Really funny. I'm going to have to read it in small bits because I will be laughing so hard.

Why am I waiting? I enjoyed Elizabeth Camden's last book, and this one looks really good. I love big, creepy house stories.

This is such a hard topic. I have no idea what goes into a great collaboration, so I am going to pair an author that I have been reading for a long time with an author I discovered more recently.

Susan Meissner and Cathy Golhke

Their most recent books have both been WW2 fiction, but they can both write in any time period.

Angela Hunt and Tosca Lee

Both of these ladies tackle interesting and difficult historical characters. I would love to see a collab on Jezabel or some equally controversial person.

 Lynn Austin and Siri Mitchell

I think these two would write a fun, light-hearted historical rom-com together.

C. E. Laureno and Sharon Hinck

I would love to see what kind of world these authors would come up with.

Lisa Wingate and Christa Parrish

I think these two would write a beautiful contemporary novel together.

Why am I waiting? I read the authors previous fantasy series and enjoyed it. This looks like a really interesting historical mystery. Not my usual genre, but I do enjoy them.

I usually wait and do Stacking the Shelves at the end of the month, but I have already gotten a lot of books over the past week. Paperback Swap has really come through lately, and I have been able to get several books for my mom. I also, of course, picked up some Kindle books.

Book Review ~ Secrets She Kept by Cathy Gohlke

Secrets She Kept

This is pretty much going to be me gushing. I LOVED this book. It was so good. The quality of the writing was excellent, and the characters were amazing. The good ones and the bad ones. The story was told in alternating first person POVs. I loved watching Hannah uncover the mystery of her family and the part they played in the war. Her mother Lieslelotte was so brave when she was young and so misunderstood later in life. This is one of my favorites this year and has cemented Cathy Gohlke as one of my favorite authors. If you enjoy historical fiction or family drama, you will enjoy this book.
