Book Review ~ These Nameless Things by Shawn Smucker
This is a complex and atmospheric novel perfect for fans of the TV show Lost and The Shack. It has themes of grief and redemption that really make you think about eternity. Much of it is based on Inferno, which I've never read, so a lot of the symbolism went over my head. That didn't keep mt from enjoying the story and wanting to find out what was going to happen. Some parts of the story didn't have answers, so if you like everything to be neatly wrapped up, you may be disappointed. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy speculative novels.

June Wrap Up
This Tender Land
This was for the Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club. I enjoyed this story that was heavily influenced by The Odyssey and Huckleberry Finn. Some of the adventures the children faced were harrowing, but their time together was sweet and endearing. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy adventure stories.

Redhead by the Side of the Road
Another winner from the Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide. I have enjoyed all of the books I've read by Anne Tyler. This one was short and sweet. I read it in a couple of sittings. The main character wants his space, but doesn't understand people's frustration with being held at arms length. He has a wonderful extended family he can't fully enjoy and a girlfriend that's ready to go to the next level. It takes a lot for him to realize what he has and what he wants. Recommended if you enjoy character driven novels that don't drag.

The Trouble With Love
This was a super cute contemporary romance with two characters that don't like each other. I really love those kinds of stories. The faith elements are well done, and there are lots of themes about family, forgiveness, and second chances. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and reading more by this author.
Big Summer
This is a great beach read. Romance (very open door, be aware), mystery, rich people, a wedding on the beach. It was a fun escape.
The Joy of Falling
This was a heavier story that dealt with grief and moving forward with life. Sometimes the characters frustrated me, but overall, I found the story full of hope. Recommended for readers who enjoy women's fiction and second chance love stories.
I Will Not Fear
This was an amazing memoir. I thought this would mostly be about the successful desegregation of the schools in Arkansas, but it was so much more. This woman has so much faith! She tells her story in a straight forward, no nonsense style. She had many harrowing experiences in school and then later when she was living in California. She makes it clear that it was her faith in God that got her through the terrible racism that she had to deal with. Highly recommended.
A Long Time Comin'
This is a fascinating family drama. Grandma B is an interesting character, and a hard nut to crack. I enjoyed getting to know each of her children, and I had a lot of sympathy for them. They grew up in tough circumstances. The writing style is very unique, and there are a lot of characters. There are themes of faith and reconciliation through out. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy stories about complicated families.
