Why am I waiting? The first book was really good. I can't wait to see where the story goes. This is also a book that my 14 year old is looking forward to. I can't wait to talk about it with her.

Quick Lit ~ February

Here's what I have been reading over the past few weeks.

Just finished:

The Feathered Bone

I'm still thinking about this one. It was completely different from what I was expecting. I've read two other books by this author, and they were both slower, character driven novels. This one was much more plot driven. It kept me up late reading, and really broke my heart. 

Currently reading:

Black Count

I'm reading this for The Deliberate Reader's book club. I'm not a big fan of biographies, but I'm enjoying this one. It's a good refresher of French history, which I always found confusing. Alex Dumas is a fascinating character. I would love to see him fleshed out more in a movie or fictional biography.

The Gifting

I just started this YA dystopian a couple nights ago. I was looking for something a little lighter. So far it's very good. I had a hard time putting it down last night. It's one of those "just one more chapters" kind of books. The series is already finished and fairly cheap on Kindle, so I may marathon these.

I have already read Stars over Sunset Boulevard. It was excellent. I'm really looking forward to The Feathered Bone, so I'll probably read that one next.

Book Review ~ Flirtation Walk by Siri Mitchell

Flirtation Walk

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance set just before the Civil War at West Point. Siri Mitchell did a great job researching and bringing the era to life. It took me a few chapters to get into the story, but then it took off at a good pace. This novel rotates between the main characters POV, but they are very unique and easy to differentiate. I especially enjoyed watching  Lucinda's story unfold and her character grow throughout.

The themes of redemption and grace are prominent in this story, and the faith elements are woven in very well. There is also a lot of humor and lightheartedness from the supporting cast. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy romance and Civil War era novels.
