Why am I waiting? I'm a Florida native who loves historical fiction. It's very rare to find books set in Florida. I'm excited to see what life was like down here in the nineteenth century.

I didn't include any re-reads on this list. I know some of these books won't make the cut for favorites of the year, but they were all good, and I gave most of them five stars on Goodreads.

Book Review ~ The Alliance by Jolina Petersheim

The Alliance

The premise of this novel is very unique. I enjoyed the plot and the writing style. Unfortunately, I really struggled to connect to the characters. There were some good plot twists and a lot of action. I also learned a lot about the Mennonite faith. It ended on a huge cliffhanger, so I hope there is going to be a sequel. I recommend this book to readers that like post apocalyptic fiction and/or Amish fiction.

Book Review ~ Delilah: Treacherous Beauty by Angela Hunt

Delilah: Treacherous Beauty

This is the story everyone knows. I remember hearing this story in Sunday school when I was very young. I had record/storybook of the Bible and the story of Samson and Delilah was featured in it. All of the basic parts of the story are in this book, but Angela Hunt brings the characters to life and gives them feelings. She gives reasons for their actions, and helps us understand what their motivations may have been.

I have loved this whole series and did reviews of Esther and Bathsheba. I don't always like to read Biblical fiction. I have my own ideas about how the characters in the Bible were. Ms. Hunt's characters were very different from how I had imagined them, but they were very real and believable. She also wove faith elements seamlessly throughout. I highly recommend this whole series.

Quick Lit ~ June

Here are the books I have been reading lately and what I thought about them.

If I Run

I picked this up on a whim at the library, and pretty much finished it in one day. I think I will have to wait a year for the follow up. I will try to be patient.

Big Little Lies

I thought I was going to hate this book, but I ended up loving it. another one that I stayed up way  too late reading. There is a TV show in the works. I'm excited.

Girl Meets Change

I've been through a lot of change in the past few years. I was hoping for something new and insightful in this book. It was an encouraging read, but there was nothing I didn't already know in this one.

The Beach Trees

I read this during our car trip to St. Louis. The writing style reminded me of Susan Meissner, and it had that whole duel time frame story going on. It was a great vacation read. Fast paced but not too fluffy. I have another book by this author on my Kindle.

Talk of the Town

This was another road trip read. It was a cute story. I have the rest of the series on my Kindle, but I'm not really in a hurry to read them.

The Hesitant Heiress

This is a really enjoyable historical romance. I did a review here.

Lady in Waiting

I got an Audible subscription recently, and this was my first purchase. I read this book several years ago, but I had forgotten most of the story. This was a nice book to listen to in the car. I thought the narrators were fine, but they didn't blow me out of the water. This was great for vacation, but I don't think I am going to become an audio book convert.
