Quick Lit ~ July

Here are the books I've been reading lately and some of my thoughts.

The Sound of Glass

I am quickly becoming a Karen White fan. This book was very similar to The Beach Trees, which I read last month. This was a great summer read. Lots of family secrets, and not much air conditioning.

The Two Family House

I loved this book. I went in not knowing a whole lot about it, which I would recommend. The author did a great job with the characters. I loved and hated different people by the end of the book. Highly recommended.

The Ringmaster's Wife

This was a lovely historical. I enjoy Kristy's writing style. My only complaint was that the dual timelines were very close together, so I got a little confused at times. Other than that, I loved it.

They Danced On

I reviewed this one here.

The Calling

I have mixed feelings about this one. It propelled the story along well enough, but I felt like there was a lot of filler material. I don't know if it really needed a whole novel. I missed Carrington. She wasn't in it much. There were some good twists, and a cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next book. It looks like book three will be out early next year.

Top Ten Tuesday ~ 10 Random Facts

Here's a few things you might not have known about me.

~I am a Florida native. I was born and raised in Jacksonville. 

~I am a musician. I have been playing the piano since I was seven. That's a long time.

~I have been married for twenty-four years. Also, a long time.

~I have three children. Adam is 22, Elin is 19, and Anna is 14.

~I home schooled all three of said children. I am exhausted.

~I'm going to be a Grandma next year. I'm SO excited!

~ My husband is a music pastor.

~ I hate to drive. Like, I really hate it.

~ My favorite food is pizza. And baked ziti. And just about everything on Olive Garden's menu.

~I love Jesus.

Book Review ~ They Danced On by Carre Armstrong Gardener

They Danced On

I have really been enjoying The Darling Family series. The characters are quirky and fun. They deal with the same struggles as the rest of do. I also love the small town Maine setting. My mom is from New England, so I always enjoy reading about life in that part of the country.

I'm not sure if there will be more books in this series or not. Many of the plot lines seemed to be wrapped up. I felt like the author hit the fast forward button at the end. But, there were several story lines that could be explored. I think it needs another book.

I would recommend this series to readers who like family drama. If you liked Karen Kingsbury's Baxter series, you will enjoy the Darlings. You will definitely want to start with the first book, All Right Here.

Why am I waiting? I've been really into family drama lately, and the New England setting looks fabulous. This one is getting great reviews. It had a really low pre-order price, so I'll get it on its release day.
