I was a member of the launch team for this book, so I was given a free copy for review. I really loved it. It's everything historical fiction should be: rich in historical detail, a lovely romance, a strong main character. I highly recommend this one. My favorite of the month.
This one was really disappointing. I love historical mystery, and this one started out with a bang. And then it host kind of fizzled out for me. I skimmed the last quarter of the book and hated the ending.
I think this one falls into the category of 'just not for me'. The writing style was unique, and the characters were really complicated. I had high expectations going in, but the book was all over the place. I struggled to keep up with the characters and the plot. There was also a lot of drug use and infidelity that turned me off to it. Not a favorite.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway last year, and I finally got around to reading it. I loved Last Christmas in Paris by this author, and this novel based on true events was delightful. I definitely enjoy the historical story more than the contemporary, but they were both really good.
This falls firmly into the escapist category. The story was interesting and well paced. The chapters were nice and short. The writing okay, but not great. Overall I enjoyed it. If you enjoy upstairs-downstairs romance, you would probably enjoy this one.
